Eurovet was named Animal Health Company of the Year at the Animal Pharm Industry Excellence Awards 2007 which took place at Gibson Hall, London on September 25th. Bioniche, Merial, Enfer and AnDiatec won the categories for new veterinary products.

Animal health consultancy firm dmrkynetec has appointed Jim Herman vice-president of research. Mr Herman has two decades' experience in the market research industry, most recently with US business Maritz Research, and before that with Monsanto. He will work from one of the company's US offices.

Banfield appoints new chief executive

The US pet hospital Banfield has appointed John Payne its new chief executive. He was a former executive at Bayer Animal Health in North America. Mr Payne succeeds Dr Scott Campbell, who retired in July but remains as chairman of the board of directors.

US secretary of agriculture Mike Johanns has resigned with immediate effect, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced. Deputy secretary of agriculture Chuck Conner has become acting secretary.
