Bioniche’s EcoNiche, a vaccine against Escherichia coli O157:H7 in cattle, secured a Canadian victory over co-nominees Merial SAS, Norbrook Laboratories and Schering-Plough Animal Health for the New Veterinary Product – Livestock category.
Merial, however, bounced back to win the New Veterinary Product – Companion Animals category with its Canine Melanoma Vaccine. Other companies nominated for this category were Janssen Animal Health and Pfizer Animal Health.
Irish company Enfer Diagnostics and its German partner AnDiaTec emerged as winners of the New Veterinary Products – Diagnostics category with BoVir, a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test kit. BoVir detects bovine viral diarrhoea virus in cattle within five hours without the need for a blood sample.
QIAGEN, a Dutch company that develops sample and assay technologies, and the UK Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) took home the Outstanding Licensing Deal of the Year award. QIAGEN and VLA are commercializing a portfolio of selected PCR-based, veterinary molecular tests or assays outside the UK. The initial portfolio consists of seven PCR-based assays for infectious veterinary diseases affecting livestock such as cows and horses.
