Fort Dodge Animal Health is to build a new $40m R&D facility in the Kansas Bioscience Park.

The new 150,000 sq ft facility will enable the company to expand its R&D activities and develop closer links with businesses and universities in the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor, said Fort Dodge president E Thomas Corcoran.

It will include laboratories and administrative support to increase collaboration between the biological and pharmaceutical sides of the business. The construction of the facility, which will eventually house 200 employees, is expected to start soon.

The Kansas Bioscience Park is a $150m public-private project aimed at developing the bioscience industry. It is still in the design phase, but the 92-acre park is expected to provide expansion space for existing bioscience companies, incubation space for early-stage firms, and expand academic and research capabilities for bioscience firms. It may also include a 25,000 sq ft web-lab incubator.

The Olathe Chamber of Commerce estimates that the park will create 3,000 jobs averaging $57,000 per year. The park is a collaboration among Kansas State University, the city of Olathe and the Kansas Bioscience Authority. It will be located in Olathe, Kansas, about 10 miles from its headquarters in Overland Park.
