Schering-Plough Animal Health (SPAH) has revealed its reshaped business structure and executive management team, following its merger with Intervet.

The changes follow parent Schering-Plough's acquisition of Organon from Dutch multinational Akzo Nobellast year. Organon owned the Intervet operation based in Boxmeer, the Netherlands. The two animal health businesses are now operating under the Intervet/Schering–Plough Animal Health name.
Former Intervet president Dr Ruurd Stolp will chair the animal health unit as senior vice-president and president animal health. This move had been confirmed early in the takeover process. He reports to the Schering-Plough chairman and chief executive officer Fred Hassan.Former president of SPAH Raul Kohan becomes senior vice-president corporate excellence and deputy head animal health of the combined business. He has worked with Schering–Plough since 1984, after working for Pfizer.
Former SPAH executives on the new executive board include Hugo Wahnish, who becomes vice-president of global animal health regions. In his previous role at SPAH, he was responsible for the Europe, Canada, Middle East, Africa and Australia/New Zealand regions. Dr KJ Varmais vice-president of research and development of pharmaceuticals; Mark van Heuman global law lead and Grainne Higgins vice-president of human resources.
New directors with an Intervet background are Dr Rene Aerts, who is now vice-president of research and development of biologicals; Jochen Bader,who takes on the role of vice-president of global finance animal health; Dr Malte Greuneas vice-president of global supply chain animal health and Andreas Konig as head of global quality operations.
Schering-Plough says that the appointments are a major step in the redesign of the animal health unit.
"The combined Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health strengthens the product portfolio in many areas, with complementary lines of pharmaceuticals, biologicals and innovative services," says a spokesman.
