DEFRA's Science Advisory Council appoints new chair

Professor Chris Gaskell is the new chair of the UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)'s Science Advisory Council.

Professor Gaskell is principal of the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester. He replaces Professor John Beddington, who is now the Government Chief Scientific Officer. The Council is independent and was set up in 2004 to advise DEFRA on science policy and strategy.
