Philip Amundson of CFIA wins outstanding achievement award
Philip Amundson, executive director of the western operation of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) was among five public servants who received the 2007 Outstanding Achievement Award. Mr Amundson joined Agriculture Canada in 1976, and played a key leadership role when the CFIA was created in 1997. He has guided the agency through the 10 cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy diagnosed since 2003, and in 2004-05, he headed the quarantine initiative to prevent the spread of avian influenza in Canada.

Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper, who presented the awards, said: "This year's recipients of the Outstanding Achievement Awards are being recognized for their extraordinary talent, effort and achievement."
