The International Federation for Animal Health (IFAH) has a new executive director to succeed Dr Peter Jones, who is retiring after two and a half years in the post.

Barbara Freischem, a veterinary surgeon with commercial and regulatory experience, joins IFAH in September, and will work from its Brussels office. She was formerly the head of global pharmacovigilance at Novartis Animal Health, based in the US, and before that worked for the European Medicines Evaluation Agency (EMEA) in London.

"Barbara's breadth of experience in animal health affairs, working both with the regulatory authorities and as an industry executive on both sides of the Atlantic, will make a substantial contribution to the work of IFAH," says Dr Jones. IFAH president George Gunn adds: "Barbara Freischem is an excellent candidate for the post, and we are delighted that she has accepted."

"I am looking forward to the challenges and excitement of the IFAH post and building on the constructive dialogue established with all stakeholders in the animal health field. The animal health industry plays such an important part in ensuring animal and human health and welfare worldwide," says Ms Freischem.
