The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released a draft business plan to support its voluntary National Animal Identification System (NAIS).

The plan supports the 48-hour traceback feature, which USDA says is "optimal for efficient, effective disease containment".

"The draft business plan is part of our effort to remain accountable and transparent in the implementation of this system," said USDA marketing and regulatory programs undersecretary Bruce Knight....
