Pfizer Animal Health is to fund research into new treatments for laminitis in horses, following a partnership with the Barbaro Memorial Fund in the US.
The initiative is aimed at raising awareness about the fund and encouraging industry to support new strategies for preventing and curing the disease. Pfizer's advertising for its equine products and displays in certain retail outlets will carry information about the fund and will encourage donations.
The fund is part of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, a charity formed in 1999 to improve the health and safety of sports people and performance horses.
