The Moredun Foundation, the governing body of the Moredun Research Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland, has a new honorary president.

John Cameron, a well-known Scottish farmer took up the post on January 1st 2008, replacing the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry who died late last year. The Institute researches infectious livestock diseases, especially those zoonotic conditions relevant to human health.

"The Moredun team is doing valuable work into practical diseases affecting the economic viability of the industry, such as sheep scab and Johne's diseases in cattle," says Mr Cameron, declaring himself a lifetime supporter of the Institute's work. "The recent threat from bluetongue disease highlights how vulnerable agriculture can be on the disease front."
