Dr Weber was most recently a self-employed consultant for the food and agriculture sectors in the US.
He has worked at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as national program leader for animal science, at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association as director of animal health, inspection and science policy and executive director of regulatory affairs.
In February, the USDA said that latest data for the Canadian firm's Escherichia coli O157:H7 vaccine met efficacy standards, and the product is available in Canada under the Permit to Release veterinary Biologics regulations. It is still awaiting full approval in both countries.
