Dr Roger Jelliffe, founder of the Laboratory of Applied Pharmacokinetics at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, introduced another potential therapeutic application from the human realm. His research team has developed the hybrid MM-USCPACK clinical and research software, which uses population modeling methods to optimize precise drug dosage regimens for human patients....

Regulatory perspective

The FDA was looking at factors and variations affecting drug response in animals, said Dr Sanja Modric, a pharmacologist and veterinary reviewer at the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine in the Office of New Animal Drug Evaluation. When evaluating new animal drugs, the FDA considers pharmacokinetic (PK) variations in dose as well as pharmacodynamic (PD) variations in response. PD variability is now considered more pronounced than PK, said Dr Modric....
